How does product activation work?
Product activation is a software-based license management technology used by most Autodesk software products. The process verifies that your serial number is valid and that the software has been activated only on eligible computers. An activation request includes:
- The product information (such as product name, serial number, and product code)
- A request code. The request code is displayed next to the serial number in the Register Today screen. This code identifies each activation request and contains no other information about the product or hardware. It consists of a machine ID and a set of values, such as the type and date of the request.
You send your activation request to Autodesk through a secure Internet connection or by email. If the request is valid, you receive an activation code, and your product is immediately available for use.
Where can I find my serial number?
You will receive a unique serial number for every product that you download via the Education Community. Your serial numbers are assigned to you during the download, and are stored permanently in your Education Community profile for easy access. If you have not yet been issued a serial number, proceed to the Download Center, select the product that you downloaded, and press the "Get Serial" button to generate one.
I have a serial number but it doesn't work.
Please verify that you entered your serial number and product key exactly as displayed in your Education Community profile.
If so, then submit a request via our Problem Form. Be sure to include the product name, your current serial number, and any error messages that you are receiving in your support ticket.
How do I get an activation code?
Product activation occurs the first time you run your Autodesk software. You transmit the product serial number, a request code, and your registration data to Autodesk. We validate the serial number, and an activation code is created and returned to your computer to enable your software.
When activating your software within the product, you'll be directed to the Autodesk Register Today website: http://autodesk.com/register.
In the event you are unable to activate your license online and need assistance, please fill out the License Registration and Activation Assistance Form. To do so, you will need the following information:
- Your full name
- Your phone number
- Your email address
- Your mailing address
- Your serial number
- Your request code
- The product name and version
