FAQ

What is Autodesk’s interest in Sustainable Design?

Autodesk products help to shape much of the built world—from buildings, roads, utilities, and entire cities, to cars, electronics, packaging, and shoes. Our vision is to help architects, designers, and engineers worldwide by making sustainable design easier and more accessible, with better tools, and better information.

For more on Autodesk’s commitment to sustainability and Autodesk products, see our Sustainable Design Center.

Why create the Autodesk Sustainability Workshop?

Students and young professionals are paving the way to new design and engineering practice, solving 21st century problems with clean technologies and new approaches to engineering and design.

We’ve talked with both students and professors to understand how sustainability is currently being integrated into engineering curricula. We want to help students understand the broader context and importance of sustainability in the engineering profession, and develop strategies to incorporate sustainability considerations into their designs and design process.

Who is this site for?

This site is geared toward post-secondary engineering students, but the content is free and accessible to anyone. We hope that it will also be useful to professors, professionals, graduate students, and high school students. The site is currently only available in English.

What will I find on the Sustainability Workshop?

The Sustainability Workshop offers:

Strategies that convey the principles of sustainable design through videos and presentations

Tutorials that show you how to put those concepts into practice, using Autodesk tools

Resources that provide more depth, examples, or context

We’ve structured the site so that you can use these resources to teach yourself about sustainable design concepts. Information is categorized based on broad sustainable design subject areas.

I’m a student – how should I use this site?

Start by viewing some of our strategy videos, and then explore the tutorials to learn how sustainable design applies in practice. Look through the resources to go even deeper. Feel free to leave comments and offer suggestions along the way.

Working through the tutorials will require Autodesk software, which you can download for free if you’re a student, or faculty member, in the Autodesk Education Community.

I’m an instructor – how can I use the content on this site?

The videos, exercises, and resources are short, downloadable, and easy to integrate into your courses. You’ll also find great resources at Engineering Pathways.

Can I get involved?

If you’re a student, professor, or professional doing working on advancing the practice of sustainable design, we’d love to highlight your work on the Sustainability Workshop! We’re also interested in your comments, suggestions for resources, questions, and feedback. If you’d like to get in touch, contact us at ecoworkshop@autodesk.com or leave us a note on Twitter @ecoworkshop.

There are also ways to engage in the broader Autodesk Education community. If you’re a student, submit your designs to the Student Design page [link to page]. Or leave us a note at our Facebook page.

How can I access Autodesk software?
