Aluminum Disaster Relief Schoolhouse
Designed to bring inspiration and hope to communities stricken by natural disaster, this lightweight and inexpensive multipurpose aluminum relief structure promises a helping hand in regaining stability. The delivery consists of a system of aluminum structural tubes which require snap-together assembly by the members of the community. A rainbow color coding on the tubes assists in coordinating the build, and then inspiring a friendly environment of learning for students. Corrugated aluminum panels, commonly used as roofing material in countries like Haiti, are gathered on-site and snapped into place on the built understructure. Designed for performance, the skin is optimized to let sunlight into the space by bouncing off of the aluminum panels, providing an instruction space brightened by much softer light than an otherwise harsh glare. Occupants are protected from rain by a removable clear plastic canopy that clips onto the structure’s underside.
